Have you ever heard the little tune..,"Hot cross buns, hot cross buns, one penny, two penny, hot cross buns." Hot cross buns are a traditional treat on Good Friday. These small bread-like buns, are delicious. They are made from dough that contains raisins, currants and other dried fruit. The top of a hot cross bun is marked with a cross or covered with lots of icing.
When I make this wonderful bun, I keep it simple, everything gets thrown into my bread machine and away it goes until it's ready to be placed into the oven.
Ingredients: 2 large table spoons of yeast, 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 cup milk, 3 tablespoons of honey, 2 eggs, 1/2 butter, pinch of salt, 1-1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1-1/2 tsp of nutmeg, 1/2 cup raisins & 1/2 of your choice of fruit/nuts, 3-1/2 cups flour. Let the machine do the magic. I always put my machine on pizza dough and when it is finished mixing place ball shape pieces into the buttered pan and flatten them a little. Make a small cross on the top of the bun. Place into a 350'F oven and bake until golden brown around 20 minutes. For frosting, Confectioner sugar, 1 table spoon butter and 1 table spoon water and mix. make your cross and enjoy. Have fabulous Easter Everyone.
