Kids and Computers Yes or No??

I heard a mom talking the other day about Kids spending more time on computers and watching television every day than they do exercising. I wasn't shocked, but I was sadden by this news. I went home and started to do a little google search on this topic; Oh, yeah there's a lot of info on this subject.

One article was on Is Your Child a Screen Addicted to Screens? In this article they find that many kids can't even give up their gadgets  "for 24 hours."  Wow, do you think maybe we need to get this in check? Parents used to fear technology, but nowadays parents seem to be welcoming the computer into the families play time, study time, school time and now even relaxation (down time) is used for computers.
I'm not one to lecture and "GOD know's I'm on the computer a lot." I never tell people what to do, but as a parent YOU are your child's first and very BEST Teacher.  It's ok, to teach a child how to Chat, Blog or Tweet, but maybe help your child to understand how to use the computer in a safe and healthy way.

Go back to the basics.., When, Where, What, How, Why and Who. When = Plan a certain amount of time each day for when children can use the computer. Where = Pick a place where everyone can view the computer at anytime and try to keep the computer in the same area everyday.  What = Discuss what your child can do and Can't do on the computer. How = Teach you child how to use the computer with respect and to give each other a little extra space while on the computer.  Why = Explain why you are allowing your child to explore the world of computers and explain how they can gain so much good knowledge from the computer.  Who = Lets make sure that your children know who they are interacting with. Help children to understand that they should tell a parents or a grown-up, if there is something they are unsure of -or- uncomfortable about with the conversation or interaction that they are having on the computer. Safety is the number one priority.
It is very important for children to play!  Let's have a balance and happy child.  A great way to have fun is to grab a bike and head outside. What are your thought on this subject? I'd love to hear form you.

WE'RE BACK

OK, lets stop all the cheering and pull ourselves together.  Right about now you are thinking about getting your kids back into the school routines and you're trying to keeping track of all those school-day schedules. Here are some tips that you may or may not want to follow...,

Here are 10 tips for beating morning madness
1. Kids need eight to 10 hours of sleep to achieve optimal health and school productivity, and parents need adequate sleep to start the day feeling fresh, so everyone needs to get into bed early.
2. McMullen theorizes that “recharging batteries is key to the success of routines.” Downtime is essential and is a built-in reward to following routines.
3. Prep for the morning by laying all clothes out the night before, including shoes, socks and hair ties.
4. Single parents with multiple children should enlist their tween or teen to help a younger one with a gentle morning wake up routine.
5. Younger children can track morning routines through a picture list that’s posted to the bathroom mirror. Older kids and parents should post lists where they can see them, too. How do you cope with

I Think My Toddler is Happier with a Pacifier.

Most babies have a strong sucking reflex. Some babies even suck their thumbs or fingers before they're born. Beyond nutrition, sucking often has a soothing, calming effect. That's why many parents rank pacifiers as must haves, right up there with diaper wipes and baby swings. Are pacifiers really OK for your baby, though?  What's your opinion on this subject? How old is too old?

Here is a little more information on the subject.  Pacifier help

What Toddlers Don't Like About Outside..

NOTHING!!  Toddlers love being outside. Toddlers should have at least a half an hour each day of structured physical activities. They need an additional hour of unstructured activities, too. Plan to do several activities each day and to stretch each activity to 10 minutes or longer if your toddler's attention span will allow. Also, remember to bring your sun screen when playing outdoors.

Toddlers get their best exercise outside. Try a park or the beach. Look how much fun this little toddler is have and it's only a SWING!!   Big Brothers or sisters can help out too. Toddlers love to watch others and often copy what they see. Toddlers will play beside one another, but usually not together. This is a normal stage for toddlers and is called "parallel" play.

A family day is the best way for everyone to bond and come a little more closer together. Share in the laughs with your children..., everyone, go out side!

SIDS

Here are some tips  for a safer sleep for your baby. 1) Place baby on his back. 2) Ensure good airflow. 3) Choose a safe crib. 4) Keep your baby comfortable. 5) Let baby sleep alone. Experts believe SIDS victims have an immature arousal centre in the brain.

(Put simply, they can't wake themselves up when they're having rouble breathing. Infants who sleep on the their stomach are most venerable to SIDS. The most dangerous time in an if ants life is between 2 to 4 months, however you should continue to safeguard your child until he turns 1 year old. More information on SIDS- CLick Here

Early To Bed Means.., Early To Rise. Is This A Myth??

How about.., Late to bed means - Late to rise?  How long have you heard these statements and have you said them yourself? Nowadays, they say that infants and young children who are put to bed late at night are most likely to be overtired and have difficultly sleeping properly.
Photo from http://www.sheknows.com/health-and-wellness

Children do not sleep in longer if you put your child to bed later.  You are only setting yourself up for a disastrous day for yourself and for the child.  Children really should have at least 12 hours of sleep.  Keeping your kids up too late, just may backfire on you. Your child may still get up at the crack of dawn.  So, late to bed, late to rise..., something tells me that's not wise!
