Things BEES Aren't Telling You

Seriously what is happening to our Bees? It's easy to take honey bees for granted, but they are very important fro agriculture and the wider countryside. Though they produce delicious honey, the really vital service that bees provide is pollination.

The problem for the honeybees is the blood sucking mite Varroa arrived in bee colonies in the early 1990s and soon spread across the country. The parasites leave larva deformed and spread disease. Visit this Link to find out more: Bee Facts

Here are 5 ways KIDS can help save the BEES..
    1) Respect Bee Homes.  Don't knock them down
    2) Be alert but stay calm. Tell you child that Male Bees can be aggressive but they don't have stingers, so they are harmless.  The way to tell is the male bees have larger eyes.
    3) Buy local honey
4)Put Water Out.  Bees need water.
    5) Build a condo for the Bees. Drill holes into a piece of wood and make a cover for it so that the bees are dry.  no one like a wet home..., Right?  Here is a picture of a bee's Home

    D.I.Y.: Mason Jar Drink Cup

I love mason jars! I use them for serving juice, hot coco (these mason jars have the handles) and I serve beer in them too. I plant plants in them, use them for candles, and to store craft supplies. I though it would be fun to make a mason jar drink cup for kids. Although it's made of glass (so be careful) it's a great way for kids to feel a little more like mommy and Daddy at the dinner table.
    Things you will need:
Small mason jars (these jars are easier for little hand), seals- for the hole in the jar, drill, wire cutter and straws.

How to make these drink cups, it's so easy.  Leave the lids on the the jars, take them into your..,

    Trick Your Child with Bananas

Here is a trick you will have no trouble pulling off. Use those ripe bananas and make them into cute little icing or chocolate covered ghost treats.  I removed all of the strings from the bananas.  Cut them in half and pushed them onto a popsicle stick. Wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze. You can either melt white chocolate in the microwave or use white icing, (your choice) completely cover the frozen banana with the chocolate using a butter knife. Place the Raisins, chocolate chips or your choice of candy to decorate the face. Return uneaten banana ghosts back into the freezer until ready to eat. Enjoy!

    This one is self-explanatory...,

    Egg Sactly

Eggs matter.. Have a look at this...

Overall, changing the number of eggs in your cake recipe can alter the properties of your cake. Too few eggs will yield a cake that is overly compact and doesn't hold together well. Too many eggs can leave you with a spongy or rubbery mess. But egg volumes can be manipulated to lighten the texture of a cake or add strength to a cake that needs to be carved,  Try varying the number of eggs in your favourite recipe to determine "eggsactly" what works for you.
I made this deviled egg recipe..delicious!!  Give it a try, you and your family will love it.
